Written on them. The Beetle, like so many other cars of its kind (the PT Cruiser, Chevrolet SSR, and so on), arrived with great fanfare, only to be neglected by its maker for a dozen years before shuffling off its mortal coil in a generally unremarkable manner. And so, James Batchelor and I are left to comment on a production run that could be described as either distinguished, or disturbing.
